The Frugalista way to decorate your home! Plus, 25% off Macys friends & family!
The deals continue. Make sure to take advantage of online deals now while you have plenty of time to receive items. Christmas will be here before you know it. My house is almost completely decorated inside and out, finally, and it feels so nice. I love that Christmassy feeling. This year, wanting to be frugal and not spend more on decorations than I had to, I tried something different. I hung snowflakes in my windows. I love the look and it was so inexpensive. You can buy 20 snowflakes for only $3 and I hung them with curling ribbon I bought for a $1 at Target. You can also buy 4 snowflake gift tags in multiple colors at Target for $1. I may go and buy more because my kids are now requesting them on their windows. :-)
I guess what I am saying is there is nothing wrong with trying to save money and think out of the box. The key is trying to be creative and coming up with affordable ideas that give you the look you want. Had I not been trying to save money, I would not have taken the time to find an affordable solution and I would not have beautiful burgundy and white snowflakes alternating in my window. It is the same with decorating in general. I have never had the desire to spend the amount needed for a perfectly decorated home like in the magazines, but I still love the look. So what is a Frugalista to do? Simple, figure out what you will need to make the look work for your home. Scour ebay.com, craigslist.org and your local newspaper classified ads for furniture. Look for only good quality furniture or furniture with good bones. I once found my dream round dining room table, a $6000 designer set for only $400 with 6 upholstered chairs on Craigslist.
If you are a handyman, or able to do some painting, you might find some great deals at thrift stores. There is no reason you have to buy everything new at the furniture store. And, don't fall for that no interest for 2 years baloney because eventually all bills come due. The key is to have everything look good in your home and for you not to know what you bought new and what you bought used. If you shop carefully, you can do wonders. Plus there is no reason you have to decorate all at once. So keep that in mind the next time you want to update your bedroom or your kids have outgrown their bedroom furniture. Another great resource is Overstock.com, who sells good quality furniture at bargain prices and with very low shipping costs.
