The House That Cleans Itself: Creative Solutions for a Clean and Orderly House in Less Time Than You Can Imagine

I am so excited!  I just had to share that Mindy Starns Clark, the author of The House That Cleans Itself, actually emailed me back.  I told her that I was working my way through her book and writing about it on my blog.  I was so encouraged to hear from her!  It is good to know that I am not the only who has ever been housekeeping-impaired.  If I was capable of having a perfectly spotless home all of these years, It would have always been clean.  But obviously that is not my gift.  So, I am working through this book to finally find a way to have a home that is clean, not spotless, but clean.

The back of The House That Cleans Itself says this;  "  Have you wrestled with messiness and disorder for years?  Are you looking for new ways to make housework easier?  Here's great news!  By adapting your house to fit your family's behavior, you can create a house that cleans itself.

Follow this step by step plan to discover:

How to keep your house twice as clean in half the time

How a stepladder, a camera, and a stopwatch will help you get started

How to quickly change a messy area into a tidy one--permanently

How to anticipate and prevent messes before they happen

How to get your family on board in this new process

Plenty of creative suggestions, specific how-tos, and loads of encouragement help you and your family change your home from "messed" to "blessed" for good."

So are you in?  Do you want to have A House That Cleans Itself?  Then join me on our journey!  Hopefully we will have some fun along the way as well as a clean house.

So far, my hubby was able to draw out a picture of our home, indoors and out and including our car.  We are going to define all of our spaces and number them in the order they need to be completed.  I have also decided on my "Home Base Zone".  Your Home Base Zone is the area of  your home that drives you absolutely crazy when it is not clean, the place in your home that makes you feel like your home is a disaster if it is not clean.  For me, that place is my kitchen, specifically the countertop from my kitchen that is open to the family room. In my home you can see from the entry way, this counter top.  Between all five of us, somehow that counter always has stuff on it.  The mail, the bills, the kids homework and backpacks and snacks.  Yikes it can be a big mess.  So I am going to clean it spotless.  I mean shine it like never before!  I am including my entire kitchen because my kitchen is really not that big and that counter is most of the problem, but there is overflow on the other counter so I might as well make it all sparkle.  Somehow my house does not seem that messy if that area is clean.  Sounds weird but that is definitely my Home Base Zone.

What is your Home Base Zone?  I mean, where is that place inside your home that you just wish could stay clean and organized.  That place that when it is clean, you can actually take a breath and a break and feel like you have accomplished something?  From step 2 of the book, there is a woman named Martha Cilley, the "Flylady" whose HBZ is her kitchen sink.  She keeps it sparkling.  There was another woman mentioned named Linda  whose HBZ is under her bed in the master bedroom.  She keeps nothing under the bed and nothing on her closet floor.  For her, when that is clean, life is good!  So take some time and think about what area of your home is your HBZ and keep that clean.  Not just keep it clean, I mean get rid of everything that is there that should not be there.  Get a box if you need to and move everything to another room.  For right now, in your HBZ, there should be nothing that does not belong.  Get that done and see how you feel.  It is going to take us a while to transform our homes.  Be patient, I know we will get there!

Hi! Carman sent me here!
I sure could use this book! Wow!
I really like the entryway solution. That is so much better than having stuff just dropped everywhere when we come into the house.
If I don't win this book I'll probably buy it!!!
